The Queen’s Wings

The Queen’s Wings by Jamie K. Schmidt basically brought me back from the brink of a reading slump. When I first started reading this book I had had quite a few books that I had started but couldn’t bring myself to finish. I won’t classify them as a DNF because I still plan to go back to them at a later date. I just couldn’t bring myself to get into reading anything. I’ve since figured out that I’m a mood reader and if I’m not in the mood it just isn’t going to happen. With that being said, apparently my mood right now if fantasy/paranormal romance.

The Queen’s Wings is an amazingly good book about dragons. We’re introduced to a world where dragons are commonplace but female dragons aren’t. There was a curse put in place that has made it so that a female dragon hasn’t hatched or shape shifted in 1000 years. In walks our main lady, Carolyn. She is absolutely certain that she is a dragon but no one believes her and writes her off as a nutcase or a groupie. That is until bizarre things start happening. Reed, much to his dismay, is assigned to watch and protect Carolyn. He can’t stand humans and doesn’t believe for a second that she really is a dragon. Unfortunately he also finds himself drawn to her. You would think that when her dragon finally shows herself Reed would feel relieved, but obviously that is not the case. Now on top of everything the cult that put the original curse on female dragons is back at it and wants to make the curse permanent. Then the race against time, the cult and all those pesky feelings starts.

I absolutely loved this book. It had twists and turns, it had tension and comedy and all the lovely things that a dragon romance novel can bring you. The ending, I can’t tell you more because no one likes a spoiler but, chef’s kiss. I loved the chemistry between all the characters. I loved the comedy that came with Carolyn’s dragon slowly surfacing. If you are looking for a book about dragons, this is for you. If you are looking for a romcom this is for you. If you are in a slump and just need something a little different this is for you. I just loved this book and how it rescued me from the black hole that is a reading slump. It came to me at the perfect time and I hope it can do the same for you. Please check this book out!
