Sleeping Beauty No More

Sleeping Beauty No More by Aisha Urooj is, well obviously, a sleeping beauty retelling. I absolutely loved it and honestly haven’t read a retelling like it. In this story we enter a world where sleeping beauty, Aurora, sleeps for a hundred years and her prince never comes to save her. When she awakes she is confused and needs to find out what happened. Even though her specific curse has aged out there are still cursed brambles that are keeping her trapped in the tower and the evil witch is still ruling the land. Luckily Devon finds her in the tower and helps her escape. Aurora figures out that Devon has a story of his own but she doesn’t know what it is. Together they go on grand adventures to figure our Aurora’s past and how to defeat the evil witch once and for all.

I really enjoyed this story. I love that Aurora realizes that she can save herself but doesn’t have to do it alone. In this story everyone helps each other and ends up having more real meaningful relationships. We get to experience demons, the forest of no return, the lake of fears, enchanted mirrors, golden mushrooms, the enchanted forest and the fairy godmothers. While we also find a handsome prince, he isn’t the sole hero, there is a whole circle of them.

This is a great book and I absolutely recommend this to anyone that enjoys reading fairy tale retellings. The imagery and storytelling is amazing. There is a little bit of romance but nothing to descriptive. There is even a small head nod to a MM relationship. It’s just such a sweet retelling. You should absolutely read it.

Note: Cat Hipps is the narrator of the audiobook.
